How do BlueMorph systems work?
Bluemorph Health Solutions systems use low pressure mercury lamps to inactivate microorganisms by exposure UVC light. UVC destroys viruses, bacteria, yeast and other microbes by non-chemical means.
What is UVC?
Short-wave ultraviolet radiation is in the “C” band of the UV light spectrum between 200 to 280 nanometers. It has been used in a wide range of germicidal applications since the late 1800s to destroy bacteria, mold, yeast, and viruses. UVC is also known as germicidal UV or UVGi. UVC inactivates and kills microorganisms by causing large amounts of DNA damage, disabling the microbe’s ability to replicate.
Do the lamps produce ozone?
All low pressure Hg lamps produce a very small amount of ozone however this is far below OSHA allowances. The spectrum of low pressure mercury lamps emits minimal light in the wavelengths known to produce ozone.
How often do the lamps have to be replaced?
The lamps have a life of 12,000 hours.
What happens if the lamps break?
The lamps are sleeved in a UVC resistant polymer that is designed to contain bulb material in the event of breakage.
Is UV-C harmful?
Prolonged exposure (depending on intensity) to UV-C light can cause skin damage and damage to the eyes. Direct exposure must be avoided. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends that the time of exposure to an intensity of 100 microwatts per square centimeter at wavelength 254 nanometers not exceed 1 minute. Anyone using any Bluemorph Health Solutions products should undergo training in use and safety before operating any system.
How do you dispose of the lamps?
Disposal should follow the same local and state laws as for normal fluorescent lamps.
What is the warranty?
All electrical and structural components have a 1 year warranty. No warranty on lamps.
Where did the Bluemorph name come from?
The lamps emit a blue light as well as UVC light. This blue color is reminiscent of the beautiful BlueMorpho Butterfly and is the inspiration for the company logo. Their wings have microscopic structures giving them the appearance of being blue and have been the subject of optical research. The latter half of their name Morph also stands for change which is what we intend for the sanitization and disinfection industry.
